Belén Iglesias Marcos – Red Sticks forward #13 joins GTHGC

In March 2020, the Spanish Hockey season was declared null and void because of the coronavirus pandemic, and with that decision went the chance for Belen to say farewell to Club de Campo, her home club. ‚It’s a bit strange,’ said Belén. ‘You know that everything comes to an end, but it’s a strange way of closing this chapter in Spain this way.’ Belén will join GTHGC on August 1st 2020.

Alex Otte, Head-Coach in Flottbek: ‘Belén possesses awareness on the ball, is technically capable of executing in the circle. She has been a striker throughout her career, with many goals for club and country. We are delighted to have her as part of the team.’

And Belén says: ‘I am happy to take the next step, being part of a very ambitious team & club and have optimal conditions to prepare for the Spanish National team.’

Belén has played so far 53 games for the spanish national team and is highly motivated to make it into the final squad for Olympics 2021. ‘We are very pleased that Belén has chosen GTHGC. The combination of our great Flottbek youth players and experience from outside will help us to grow as a team. Particularly as Belén will also start her working career in Hamburg, we have a strong commitment from her to shape the future at GTHGC’ says Andries de Groen.
